Carrowmore Burial Tombs & Knocknarea Mountain

Carrowmore situated under Knocknarea is home to the famous Megalithic Cemetery one of the largest in Ireland and one of the most important in Europe. Some of the tombs date back to around 4,370BC and the visitor centre can provide guided tours during the summer months. Knocknarea Mountain (1,078 ft) dominates the peninsula, and the cairn on the summit is the legendary burial place of Queen Maeve of Connacht. After a walk up this amazing mountain drive on to Strandhill and take part in a local pastime of watching surfers breaking waves!
